The 2015 edition of the symposium reviewed the history of gender in games and documented the emergence of a “third wave” of game feminism. The conference was organized around four avenues of research: the evolution of feminist discourses in the field of game studies, the transformation of gender representations in video games, the influence of women and sexual minorities on game design, as well as the evolution of gender dynamics in game communities.

This second edition had the privilege of welcoming five distinguished keynote speakers at the symposium: Suzanne de Castell & Jennifer Jenson (Feminists in Games), Adrienne Shaw (author, Gaming at the Edge), Todd Harper (author, The Culture of Digital Fighting Games) and Brie Code (lead programmer, Child of Light).

2015 symposium chairs:

  • Mia Consalvo, Concordia University
  • Gabrielle Trépannier-Jobin, MIT Comparative Media Studies / Writing, Cambridge
